Year 15th

Year 15th,
Day 86,
I sat under the light of stars
but they were brighter than
they used to be once.
It's been 15 years since the
pandemic and I was just
10 at the time when it all started.
I remember inhaling the crowd of
B I L L I O N S O F H U M A N S
leaving their footprints on geometry
O F P L A N E T E A R T H ' S
S U R F A C E
and I remember the presence of
CO2 in the air we used to breathe.
The earth will not be fit to
live in the near future, they said.
I smirked at the memory,
well, it's fit now.
All this time,
we were the problem.
This poem belongs to the timeline where the earth's population is reduced to less than half of what it is now because of a pandemic. The year timeline has started again and humans are living in the year 15th. The person in the poem was just 10 years old at the time of pandemic and remembers how it was like to live in a world full of humans. The scientists and governments always used to say that the planet was changing and it won't be fit to live in the near future but post-pandemic things have already changed for the better. The person in the poem realizes that all this time, we were the problem
